Art in the Family, Meet the Ferrons

Ahead of Philly Fashion Week’s Feb. 21-25 return, Philly Live’s Aunyea Lachelle speaks with designer David Ferron about what to expect at this year’s event and how it could benefit small local designers.

It is time for the mother to get the gown that feels like the wonderful life she has created for her and her family.

Before becoming a design studio, 1712 W Doe Run Road was a tack shop. For decades the Unionville Saddle Shop was the place to go for the local equestrian community for repairs, supplies, and riding gear.

The Stephanie cape, Julia denim jacket, and other items are named for Ferron’s clients and inspired by the pieces he made for them. “Working with real women is what I love to do,” Ferron says. “The fashion industry doesn’t always serve their needs.”

After studying at New York City’s Parsons School of Design and working for some of the industry’s biggest labels, Unionville High School grad David Ferron returned to his roots.

Ferron has made a conscious decision to design for varying body shapes. Eveningwear has power-mesh lining to help smooth lines.

With the help of your donations, my goal of raising $1500 was reached yesterday in one hour.

My goal is to raise $1500 to order 150 yards of antibacterial face mask material through a GoFundMe fundraising campaign.

The nurse told me 90 sheets of material were picked up in 30 minutes. 90 sheets at 30 masks a sheet is 2700 masks. Now, I'm no math wiz but that’s a ton of masks the hospital will get back in a few days from volunteers.

In this time of unprecedented and unexpected change, we all must do what we can to keep each other safe. And for me, that means postponing my show and suspending shop hours until further notice. I will be monitoring and following all recommendations regarding gatherings and close contact.

I could see a time, if we weather the rising sea levels, and the unbreathable air, and the raging fires, where everything would go back to dressmakers and tailors.

One of my mantras is "be kind to yourself." I believe that every person is their own harshest critic particularly when it comes to looking in the mirror. If we can be more kind to ourselves we can be more kind to others.
